If I were to ask you’Who or what have you been physically?’ your first response could be, “Seriously, I know who I am at a physical level , after all I’ve been living in this body my entire life.” That’s not an unreasonable reply, but it’s not one that reaches the center with this question: who have you been at the core physical level ? Not what your name is, or what you do or what you seem like, but who or what have you been at the fundamental level of body ?
The straightforward answer is, that at the basic level you are an unbelievably complex assortment of organs, tissues, muscles, fluids, bones, teeth and joints that (usually) all come together flawlessly to keep the’me’that you believe you are alive and functioning. There’s nothing earth-shattering because answer to be certain, but it will give a segue to another question, which can be, maybe you have just for a couple moments given any thought whatsoever to all of the activities that occur in your body without your conscious involvement? This excerpt from Deepak Chopra’s book Ageless Body , Timeless Mind provides some revealing insights concerning the great number of events that are occurring within your body , literally every second that you will be alive :
One hundred things you spend no attention to — breathing,digesting, growing new cells, repairing damaged old ones, purifying toxins ucdm preserving hormonal balance, converting stored energy from fat to blood sugar, dilating the pupils of the eyes, raising and lowering blood pressure, maintaining steady body temperature, balancing as you walk, shunting blood to and from the muscle groups that are doing the absolute most work, and sensing movements and sounds in the surrounding environment — continue ceaselessly.
Along with those second-to-second activities , your body is gradually undergoing long-term changes as well. As an example, by the conclusion of one year, ninety-eight percent of the atoms in your body can have been exchanged for new ones, and by the full time seven years have elapsed, your body can have completely replaced itself on a cell-by-cell basis. Amazingly, the stomach lining actually replaces itself every five days, your skin replaces itself once per month, the liver replaces itself every six weeks, and believe it or not, even the skeleton replaces itself every 3 months! And most of all, all with this occurs without one single little bit of conscious effort on your part. Consider also that every time you eat something, your body automatically takes that food source and breaks it into its component parts, uses what it requires, and discards what can’t be used as waste. Imagine if you had to consciously control the digestive process? Can you even fathom all of what you would have to direct merely to digest an individual bit of bread? We take so much for granted about our anatomies, yet most of us are quick to complain the moment that something within us is not functioning properly.
Your body is genetically coded to stop you alive , and if you actively take action to inhibit its defenses, it can do everything in its capacity to preserve your quality of life and life. A good example with this tendency toward perfect health is your body’s immediate response to injury. Whenever you cut yourself in a minor way, as you well know, it’s simply a matter of moments ahead of the injury begins to heal itself by first clotting the blood in your community, and then immediately starting to rebuild the damaged tissue. It is literally remarkable this myriad of activities is occurring within you at all times, and you effectively have nothing regarding it, whilst the God-Force is quietly and efficiently looking after all the details. If you pause for an instant at this time to consider all with this, there really isn’t any other way to explain your whole physical life to be anything less than a complete miracle. However, how most of us really sit down to appreciate that miracle on a daily basis? Granted it’s tough to achieve that, especially in the present incredibly hectic world, but just the slightest awareness you give to that miracle every day will help to improve your connection with the Divine intelligence that is in charge of that miracle.
To cultivate this awareness of the wonder that you actually are, begin at this time to acknowledge the miracle your body is, and the extraordinary activities it performs on a daily basis. As an example, make best efforts each day to take a few minutes from your busy schedule to silently thank your body for digesting the food and for removing toxins and waste. Naturally there’s more to the story, like eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, consuming less animal foods, and maintaining a generally speaking active lifestyle. Yet, there exists without doubt within my mind that my daily acknowledgment of the contributions created by every single part of my body plays an integral role to keep me healthy.
I would suggest that you adopt the exact same daily routine of expressing gratitude for every and every part of you, and you may soon get feeling increasingly healthy and more energetic as well. All this providing, obviously, that you do not express such gratitude out of one side of the mouth area, while simultaneously stuffing one other side with unhealthy food, and sitting idly on the couch all of the time!
